Dolphins and turtles as original Christmas gifts
by Silvia Musso
We are now in final stages, all engaged in the frantic race to the last Christmas purchase. If you are still without ideas, what do you think of a dolphin or turtle’s adoption? This is the original proposal of CTS – Centro Turistico Studentesco e Giovanile – Italian association that since years has been dealing to the diffusion of a travelling culture respectful of the environment.
“Adopt a dolphin” and “Adopt a tortoise” are the fund raising campaigns that CTS promotes to sustein the activities of the dolphins’ and turtles’ safeguarding Research Centers, engaged into the study of these endangered species.
The adoption is symbolic, but the contribution is substantial and will sustain the activities of biologists that work in the CTS Research Centers.
The adoption can also become a gift. It is simple: go to the CTS website, download, fill and send an adoption form. The person to whom the adoption will be addressed, will get a kit containing a puppet, one picture of the adopted dolphin or turtle with their biography and a certificate. It is also possible to choose a more sustainable way of adoption, the digital one, that gives you just a wallpaper and the adoption’s certificate.
The ones who are interested can find more information on the CTS website where it is also possible to listen to the radio advertisements realized for the campaign’s diffusion and to watch a video where the testimonial Mario Tozzi, Italian journalist and geologist, invites everybody to participate to the project: «Every year thousands of turtles and dolphins die: pollution, industrial fishing, accidental catch are among the main reasons that threaten their lives. To safeguard these animals and help the CTS Research centers, I’ve decided to do a concrete act: to adopt one of these animals thanks to CTS».
This year sea animals will get also another gift, a gift that indeed comes quite in late: the confirmation by the Environment Minister, Stefania Prestigiacomo, of the ban – without more delay – also in Italy of the plastic bags, one of the main causes of the oceans’ pollution and of their inhabitants’ death.
