The pollution of trolley shopping

di Francesca Maio

We are all in this together, we wrote some … ago about the campaign of biodiversity. Today I say we are all in this together About a daily action: the shopping. The relationship between the environment and the shopping is strong especially when our choices are not guided by knowledge.

Have you ever thought about how many miles does your bottle of water in packs of six to get to the supermarket? Or what a tomato out of season pollutes because it grown in greenhouses or imported from abroad?

These questions are answered in a challenge that can be summed up in what Barry Wandel said: "Eating is an agricultural act" and "the way in which we eat determines the way in which [...] is used the world".

In an international perspective, The political economic and social debate, is focused on the sustainable development , ‘cause our activities, this policy makes each of us aware and responsible of the environmental problems in our planet.

The answer is in decisions and solutions which depart from below, by individuals and communities that reflect a direct view of the need to protect the environment.

This logic is part of the eighth edition of the critical consumption and sustainable lifestyles fair: Fa' la cosa Giusta! (Do the Right Thing!), organized by the association Terre di mezzo Events and Terre di Mezzo onlus in Milan.

It will be a three days of meetings, exhibitions and activities dedicated to the economy of solidarity, renewable energy, consumer awareness and sustainable food and agriculture.

The special section 'Eat what you say, ' will focus around concepts such as security and food sovereignty, perhaps unclear whether expressed in words, but carriers of the right of everyone to a supply genuine, just and based on the type and respect of its territory and the free choice of the community.

Last year Fa’la cosa giusta made many visitors: 65,000 people, 1,400 students and 630 accredited journalists who have met with over 620 exhibitors in local actions to spread positive territory on the best practices of consumption.

This year we are all called to participate, to do the right thing to enhance the local decisions that affect the global dynamics that influence us.

Fa’ la cosa giusta will be hosted from 25 to 27 March 2011 by Fiera Milano City.
