The cycling 'quiet' is becoming a mass phenomenon in Europe, with players of all ages: young people, families with children, elderly. Many Italians are approaching this way of travel, immersed in nature, in complete confidence with their body and respecting the environment.
Cycling is slow enough to enjoy everything that the area offers: colors, smells, landscapes. It allows you to have closer links with those who ride with you and meet new people along the way. But the bike is fast enough to allow you to change the landscape at every curve and to discover new aspects of historical, natural, artistic land you cross. The bike trip is not only move from one place to another, but it is the experience itself.
Abroad cycling routes of several hundreds of kilometers are many popular, are crowded by thousands of travelers-cycle from March to October. Italy, except the provinces of Bolzano, Trento, Ferrara, and a few others, is still behind concerning infrastructures. Pending the completion of trails safe and secure, the FIAB has identified more than 16,000 km of Bicitalia, the national network, which half have already been mapped on www.bicitalia.org. Another important aspect of cycling is the appropriate accommodation, so we have awarded more than 200 hotels "Friends of the Bicycle" from among the 1,800 present on www.albergabici.it with a plaque and a certificate. All these structures have the characteristics to accommodate the cyclists in the best way possible. The catalogue can be requested at segreteria@fiab-onlus.it.
The FIAB, Italian Federation of Friends of the Bicycle is been promoting cycling tourism for over twenty years, in addition to daily use and urban cycling. The site, www.fiab-onlus.it, has a additional section (Biciviaggi) for those who want to start practicing this kind of sustainable tourism.
