"Mediterre 2010", between art and workshops to communicate the sustainability

Beginning today, Wednesday January 27th, “Mediterre 2010. Sostenibili. Adesso” ("Mediterre 2010. Sustainable. Now"), scheduled in Bari until Saturday 30th.
The event, organized by Regione Puglia in collaboration with the Federparchi (the Italian Federation of Parks), is now in its sixth edition and this year is the first Italian meeting of the International Year of Biodiversity, launched by the United Nations.
«Any return to the ancient idea of economic growth based on environmental rape will be rejected by us with firmness and determination» said the President of the Region of Puglia, Nichi Vendola, in a promotional video dedicated to the principles underlying the event.

During the four days are scheduled twenty workshops, that will touch various issues: from the environmental communication to the separate waste collection, from the sustainable tourism to the Oasis WWF’s contribution for the enhancement and conservation of biodiversity in Puglia. Will also be awarded the “Environment Friendly Innovation for the South Award”, to the companies that produce significant environmental improvements in the South Italy.

Rich, in addition, the program of events that form the corollary: theatre (there will be the writer Erri De Luca), concerts, educational workshops for adults and children in which we should give a "new life" to waste, exhibitions and artistic events.
The art, in particular, assumes a primary role this year, including the environment communication, with special emphasis on issues relating to the water. In collecting contemporary art “Acqua a zone") ("Water in areas") will, in fact, visible to the creative works of various artists from Puglia, including photographic and audio-visual installation, a direct channel of communication, to convey the message against speculation and the commodification of the water intended as a common good and to fight against the hydro geological risk of Apulia.

So not only a full program of conferences -where it is, however, the priority task of establishing new relationships between institutions, managers and operators sector and can be followed in streaming on the official website of the event: www.mediterre.regione.puglia.it- but, above all, an operation to consolidate knowledge in Puglia and dissemination of issues concerning sustainable development and an important action of territory marketing for local initiatives aimed at the protection and promotion of natural, cultural and environmental assets.

Dual also the target by the manifestation of Bari: Mediterre, from the one hand, is addressed to public and private entities that working to protect natural resources and promoting sustainable development, and second will involve citizens, encouraging them to the reflection on environmental issues.
