Women to help the environment

by Eleonora Anello

What does it mean to be a woman in Italy today? This is the same question that has set the “Rose wave”, that on February 13th, 2011, has crossed 230 squares, to reaffirm the dignity of women, rejecting what it demeans women and treats as an object . Without resorting to feminist rhetoric, from the recent events taken by all the media, objectively it have been identified through slimy and vulgar behaviour, as well as dominant values, damaging the dignity of women, in which many women do not identify themselves and above all no one wants to transmit to their children .

On the occasion of International Women's Day, we want to share with our readers these thoughts and we want to talk about women who suffer, women who work and, as our mission, women who help the environment.

In fact, there are so many associations and this number is increasing day by day. Like lacasadipinocchio, operating for three years in the women's prison Lorusso and Cutugno of Turin, through a creative laboratory that first of all works on the recovery of femininity, giving objects, apparently exhausted and supposed to end their lives in landfills, a new use and high value. They sew coats and, in general, dresses. It is modernizing clothes are no longer used. Glamorous accessories are made with feathers, buttons, but also with the toys of Kinder surprises. The products are then resold to mark Fumne (women in the dialect of Piedmont).

«Lacasadipinocchio is a cultural association which works through a work of pure creativity, preferring a direct relationship with any woman, who is considered a person before anything else deserves to be valued, appreciated and heard -
Monica Gallo and Sara Battaglino, the responsibles, tell us - It 's a job that requires time and dedication. But most importantly it is a job that starts trying to restore the dignity of women».

Undoubtedly, Fumne is communication: external through a known and appreciated brand, and internal into the working group. «Every woman has her own life, a personal history, often made up of suffering and pain. Pietro Buffa, our director, in his article, described the prison as a large container of poverty. And into this large container that we seek a new form of communication, a common path, an open search, in which every woman can bring something essential and unique, but most detached from the sad past».

And in one of these education programs that are held out of the idleness and inactivity, which can provide employment for the future out of jail, was born on "Scent of Fumne", gift for International Women's Day 2011 . The fragrance was obtained from a mixture of rose, tuberose, lily of the valley, jasmine, orange blossom, musk and amber. Purchased by March 4th, can be found for sale in some shops in Turin. Definitely a great gift!
