A classic for recycling
by Francesca Maio
‘Recycling’ is never out of fashion, and research investment and innovation are frequently promoted in terms of recycling.
The key to make this eco-process really virtuous is the active involvement of consumers because their daily choices have an impact on the environment.
Educating the new generation to a healthy lifestyle choices about environment and current problems is important for achieving important goals in the long- run.
In this context, we think it is interesting to talk about COMIECO: an institution that manages voluntarily every stage of the process that recovers and recycles paper and paperboard, also know as 'recycling loop’, between paper manufacturers and the local authorities in Italy.
Comieco is the National Consortium for the Recovery and Recycling of Cellulose-based Packaging; to celebrate the 10 years of ‘Riciclo Aperto’, a project based on the concept of recovery of used paper and cardboard and eco sustainability of the paper industry, it has found an original and creative way to celebrate them.
I’m talking about the literary competition: ‘Riciclare? Un classico!’: a collaboration between Comieco and the publisher Minimum Fax; the target is young people and adults. The contest invites for reinterpretation, or 'recycling' , of three classics of contemporary literature, whose incipit has been rewritten by three major authors from Italian literary scene: Diego De Silva, Paolo Giordano and Francesco Piccolo.
The deadline to submit the artwork is on 15 March 2011, you can win a reading corner with recycled materials and books of Classics Minimum. All information are available on: www.comieco.org.
